The first edition of the Black Market was held this Saturday, July 7 and Sunday, July 8, 2018 at the Bushman Café. Co-organized with the Original Foundation this craft market was an opportunity to highlight the know-how of African handcraftmen. From Cameroon to Kenya via Ivory Coast, Ghana and Burkina Faso discover the highlights of this weekend.
The Black Market, how to valuate crafts differently
The Black Market is an idea of Alain Kablan Porquet, owner of the Bushman Café which aim is the valorization of our local know-how. The Original Foundation, as co-organizer of this event, shares the same values.
For this purpose, 28 exhibitors were selected because they offered craft products made in Africa with processes mixing traditions and / or modernity. We could therefore found products made with African woven fabrics, essential oils, cosmetics made with shea butter or black soap, jewelery made with pearls, bronze or tin, recycled products or traditional pharmacopoeia as herbal tea.
It must also be added that the selected exhibitors have been chosen for their eco-responsible and environmentally friendly practices. Thus, some artisans have been highlight for the more social scope of their actions. We wanted to remind the 533 visitors, who passed during these two days, that behind a craft product, there can be many hands and often a much more developed and complete industry.
Finally, in the will of the Original Foundation to transmit knowledge, activities for children were held. It was traditional make-up with Kaolin powder and the Adinkra symbols hunt that make a lot of sense in the cultural understanding of Akan tribe.

By now, we have acquired expertise in the organization of a qualitative sales exhibition. Our main objective is to promote artisans by giving them the opportunity to be discovered in the field since 70% of the selected exhibitors are newcomers on the market.
